Book service
  • Can I also combine or not book accommodation?

Of course you can also combine: for example first a few weeks with a host family and then a student apartment. This way you bring variety to your stay and you benefit from the advantages of both. If you have your own accommodation and only want to book the course, that is also possible; The prices are also listed in the price overview per destination.

  • Single or double room?

If you book a double room, you will be placed with a fellow student of the same sex and, in principle, of a different nationality. But you can also share it with someone you know - when you book together. Sometimes you can only book a double room if two people register at the same time. This is then stated in the price overview.

  • What about meals?

There are often a number of options: lodging (L) means overnight only (no meals); with half board (HP) you have the overnight stay and two meals a day (usually breakfast and a warm evening meal). When you book full board (VP), accommodation and all meals are included. You will find the options in the price overview of the location of your choice.

  • From when to when?

The accommodation is usually booked from the day before the start of the course, until the day after the end of the course. This is almost always from Sunday to Saturday; Look in the price overview for the information per location. Of course you can also travel on other days and book extra nights accommodation.

  • How far from the institute?

The accommodations are as close as possible to the school; in large cities the distance is, of course, often somewhat greater. The quality of the accommodation always comes first. In any case, the school is always easily accessible by public transport.

  • What do I have to bring along?

Bed linen is usually provided at the accommodation options mentioned; In many cases you have to bring your own towels. These kinds of things are stated in the confirmation information that you receive from us before departure.

  • How much pocket money do I need?

In Egypt and Jordan and Morocco you will need at least 300 euros per month in pocket money. At the beginning of each period you need extra money for books and materials. Depending on the included meals, you also need money for this. See Student budget!

  • Do I need a car?

Most colleges and universities are easily accessible by public transport. Especially in and around the major cities, public transport is well organized and you do not need a car. In Morocco, a car can give you a lot of freedom if you want to see a lot of the area. You could then rent or buy a used car and sell it again before leaving. It is necessary to take out separate car insurance for this.

  • Can I follow one semester?

Yes that is allowed. Some students take one semester after which they go home. Keep in mind that you have more choice of courses for the Fall semester than for the Spring semester.

  • Do I have to take certain courses?

Some colleges require you to take courses. You can choose the other subjects yourself. Colleges offer many options: most students choose subjects that they cannot take at home, such as cultural and creative subjects or sports.

  • Can I fly home during the holidays?

Most colleges in the Arab world have vacations of two to six weeks between semesters, and 1 to 2 weeks in the spring. Most of the students use this time to travel around the country or to go home with their new Arabic friends. We do not recommend going to your own country. We know from experience that it is very difficult for students to say goodbye to the home front for the second time and also to pick up the thread in the Arab world again.

  • Can I call someone from Go Arabic in case of problems?

Yes, you can always call or email us during office hours for support or advice. We then try to find a solution together with our partners.

  • What conditions do I have to meet to be eligible for the Minor program?

You are between 15 and 18½ years old, have reasonable to good grades at school and have a reasonable to good knowledge of the Arabic language. In addition, you should be motivated to live in a whole new environment for a year or semester and to adapt to new habits and situations.

  • How am I prepared for my exchange year?

The preparation already starts with the interview and the application package. A few months before departure, we hold an orientation meeting with all future students and their parents. Important things are discussed during the meeting and former participants are also present, who can tell about their experiences and give you good tips. After your registration, we can also put you in touch with a former participant who you can turn to with all kinds of practical questions or simply to share your tension with an 'experienced' someone. You and your parents will also receive a handbook, in which everything is listed again. And of course you and your parents can always call us if you have any questions.

  • Who do I contact from Go Arabic if I am in one of the Arab countries?

Your direct point of contact becomes your Coordinator. The coordinator takes care of your placement at a school and in a host family, but the care does not stop there. After your arrival in the country, the coordinator will invite you and the other students in the region for an introductory meeting. The coordinator also organizes some activities or meetings during your exchange year and he/she will keep in touch with you by phone and by post to check how you are doing. You also have a number of other contact points in the form of a 'regional' and a 'national advisor', who can help you if you cannot reach your coordinator or if you have a more complicated question. You can also always contact our office during office hours, we would love to hear from you.

  • Where are you?

For Minor programs we basically work with partners in Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt. This is where your registration package will end up as soon as it is completely complete. Our colleagues will then ensure that the coordinators in the country are aware of your profiles, so that a school and host family can be found for you.

  • When can I register?

That is already possible. It may seem a bit early, but we are already conducting interviews with students who have registered for next school year. This way you have at least enough time to prepare your placement package and perhaps choose a placement in a certain region, city in the Arab world. If you want to specify a region preference, you must register before 1 September. We need your complete package before September 15th.

  • When will I hear if I have been accepted for the program?

After receiving your application you will hear from us soon and we will make an appointment for the interview. During the interview we will try to form the best possible picture of you based on a personal conversation, your figures, your letter and everything else that is discussed. You will hear within a few days whether you have been accepted.

  • Can you put me in touch with former students?

We would like to put you in touch with former students or students currently residing in the Arab world. This way you can find out more about our program and the Minor experience. Call or email us.

  • What happens if I don't click with my host family?

Of course we try to find a suitable family for every student. However, sometimes it happens that things just don't go well with a student and a host family. We will always try to discuss certain matters first. Who knows, maybe a problem is based on a simple cultural difference or misunderstanding and you and your host family can have a nice year together after a good conversation. Sometimes it turns out it really doesn't work. In such a case, we will look for a new host family or who knows, you may have already met someone with whom you want to and can live. These new second host families must also be accepted by the organization for the program.
